Message: I do think that it is time to reign this Michigan fellow. Look, Michigan is a good school. Nobody doubts that. However, not all good schools are created equal, and UM is clearly a notch below the Ivies, Stanford, NWU, Hopkins, Duke, etc.. You cite the placement record as if it is some sort of holoy bible. I see three people at Goldman, two at Morgan, three at McKinsey and one at Bain. Thus, we have nine people out of the five thousand that graduate UM every year that get into elite firms. The Ivies which are only a third or a fourth of the size of MIchigan, manage to place five to six times as many people into the aforementioned firms. This is largely, because the average student at an Ivy is much better than at UM. Of course, the stars will place well at all schools. However, it is the middle class that determines quality, and not a select few students. Be happy with your school. It is respected enough to let your sorry ass into some great places. However, please, don't get delusional and start thinking you are on par with the Ivies. You are nowhere near their level, and no amount of self - therapy through ignorance will change that.
