Yes, the concept of recommittment to our clients was music to so many ears, b/c that's what many of us have felt has been lost over the past few years. But the way they go about layoffs in general, the frequency, and the fact that they can never seem to get it right, just makes me question whether or not we will truly be positioned to fulfill the work required to deliver the best service and value to our clients. I don't think anyone can blame all of us for being skeptical, as much as we would love to see Schwab get back to basics, the ever-changing leadership and lip-service makes me wonder if layoffs and this round of restructuring is really going to accomplish the recommittment we're all hearing about...you know? If it works, great, I hope I'm around to see it happen! BTW, where is the recommitment to employees (and the things it takes to make them feel empowered, committed, loyal, worthwhile and happy) in all of this, I think the revival of our culture is an important component that's missing from all the leadership team's communications about 'reocusing'? |

Look....yes they probably got rid of/and will eliminate some good people with the bad but that has always been the drill since 2001. It's not a matter of being a top performer but rather who in senior management is watching your back. There is still fat in HQ to cut and with that fat there will be good people eliminated. Schwab has become just like every other company out there and it is killing our moral. They should adopt a GE method... stack ranking and elimination of the bottom 10 percent at least we could know where we stood. But let's take a look at who got canned last week...I mean CS? Who cares...Mr "Ship" visited our region once and was a complete zero....Now DS was a smart guy but he was also one of the supporters of the failed Personal Choice. The key to sucess is to align yourself with a power broker that has some staying power....for me that's WB. So I have to read the good book and quote a few scriptures...no big deal. The sad fact is the company has lost it's way and is trying to find a niche that isn't already filled but someone better....unlike some of those other yo yos at HQ at least WB has a vision....it may be wrong but it's better then nothing. I personally don't think we will ever regain our lost glory or become a customer advocate but if you put that aside it's an ok paycheck and I wouldn't want to be a manager at a full service firm so I'm good. On the plus side at this rate we might get bought out so there's a package for you.
