I'm very early in the process, but I have two questions I hope you can help with:
1. Can you choose your area of interest (whether it is a specific issue or part of the world) or are you assigned without being consulted? If it helps, I applied for a DC area based DO job.
2. Is it possible, after gaining expertise or taking classes, to transfer from DO to DI at some point down the road?

I went in thinking I would be good in the field. Once I went through the first couple steps, i realized that DC based was better for me. Just because you applied for DC doesn't mean you can't change your mind. You and the people you meet will help to hone in on what you can do best.
