I'm just an outside observer, but it seems being a woman could work to your advantage. It may be easier for you to observe others because your presence gathers less attention. Besides, you can turn to Arab women. It seems there's a focus on talking to the men - I bet you could learn some really interesting things from talking to the half of the population that tends to be "ignored". |

in her book "Denial and Deception: An Insider's View of the CIA" writes how despite some challenges to the old boy network, she was a very succesful ops officer in the Middle East. The fact that she could go around and wear a veal was an advantage, and Arab men wanted to speak to her. I've also heard from women on the inside and according to them, women can certainly be succesful in the DO.
