Arabic is definitely hard. It ain't a category 4 language for nothing.
I do agree that dialect is easier and more fun than MSA, and is equally as important to learn (plus you don't end up sounding like Shakespeare to the locals when you open your mouth). But learning a dialect on top of MSA means twice (ok, maybe 1.5 times) the effort to truly, thoroughly learn Arabic, which a lot of folks don't want to bother with.
