Marhaba ya cm492 - Was just curious what your level is in Arabic. I'm advanced-ish but have a way to go before achieving fluency. Just starting out in the interview process. What other langs do you know if you don't mind my asking? How much of a leg up do you feel your language skills have given you as you've gone through the interview process? Thanks. |

my arabic is worse than my other languages, and frankly, i think i would rather work for a couple of other bureaus before near east affairs. i think i only mentioned my languages maybe twice in the whole interview process. it obviously helped me get noticed, but i feel the language issue is only a factor in that it shows i have lived abroad and i am comfortable in other cultures (which is a huge factor). i remember talking a lot more about personality traits than resume type stuff in interviews. so even though my arabic is not great, i would need to spend a lot less time in language training that someone just starting with the language in order to reach a level 3. if they are sending people overseas at a level 2, then i am very close.
