I never mentioned to people that I was interested in a gov't job. The first that they ever heard was when the investigator said that he was DoD. When they asked, I just said that it was a job with a political consulting firm that requires some clearance (I had names for a few such firms).
Still, I think that it'd be better, in some ways, if the investigators didn't announce their gov't affiliation and just said that they were hired as part of a general pre-employment background check. |

it may be better for the investigator to not mention the govt, but when he starts asking my professors and classmates about my foreign friends and if i can be blackmailed about anything, i think they will figure it out themselves. i thought i would preempt their wondering minds and simply state DoD or something like that. I was in a program in which half the american graduates needed security clearances for something, so it was no big deal.
