At my old agency, we had a couple of dropouts from our "DO" (we didn't call it that) who were then offered jobs in our "DI." They turned out to be complete failures as analysts, in large part because they were ill-suited to desk work ... they always complained about being unable to "play spy" out in the field.
Personally, I don't think DO types are "better" or "worse" than DI types ... each have different skills and responsibilities that complement each other to accomplish the mission. But at my old agency, they apparently thought those unable to hack it as operators were still "good enough" to be analysts, implying operators were somehow superior.
I wonder if CIA thinks that way? |

I wonder which "old agency" this is. Are you moving private to public or out of the military?
