Not sure if this is true for everyone, but I was actually interviewed by my prospective boss, so I think I was essentially "assigned" to my section by the interview process. This at least seems to be the process for the more focused areas of analysis (weapons, counterintelligence, counterterrorism) ... not sure if this is how it works with the broader areas (political, leadership, economic, etc.).
As for when this all occurs relative to the clearance, I'm not sure since I already had a clearance when I applied. |

spynavy, I presume when you say you already had clearance, means you had TS/SCI from somewhere like NSA et al who also poltygraphs that the agency views as more or less equal to there's and basically piggybacks for thier purposes?
