In Reply To: I was curious how things work with DI folk and foreign nationals. Obviously, a relationship with a foreign national would be difficult, even for somebody in the DI, but I was wondering how often analysts get involved (not through work) with foreign nationals. For instance, my investigator was former FBI and army intel, but he mentioned that his wife was Finnish. I'm not sure when he married relative to his clearances, but with the overseas experiences that many analysts (at least) seem to have, one would imagine that relationships with non-US citizens is not entirely uncommon.
Message: Many applicant's that apply have extensive experience overseas, and unless you are a hermit, you are going to form relationships with friends, some of which lead to more right? I would think that DI analysts that have spent time abroad have an advantage in terms of avoiding 'mirror imaging' etc. and DO types would have advantage because they know how to make friends (read influence/manipulate) foreigners. As far as clearance goes, if your signifiacant other is not a US citizen, they must be interviewed, and possibly polygraphed, and be in the process of applying for US citizenship. One thing to keep in mind, if serios about pursuing a career in this area (clearly we are otherwise we wouldn't be 'chatting' on this board) then it's a good idea to plan and talk with other partner ahead of time since you DO NOT want to be in a situation where you only talked vagualy about it and then when the wife is asked to revoke her home country citizenship (can happen) she refuses, and you are left with a choice of relationshp or intel career. PLAN, PLAN, PLAN...
