In Reply To: It sounds like DI would be no problem at all to bring a spouse/girlfriend along, and NCS would be impossible.
Message: There are several position's in the NCS that are HQ based (SSO, OTO, CMO, etc.) so would allow you to maintain a general life in DC/NOVA, but the clandestine nature of the whole NCS means that while you can tell your spouse what your general job is (no deatails) and other immediate family, you must maintain a cover to everyone else, which can be a burden. If you are an Ops Officer or field CMO then you spend majority of time abroad - family comes along if they are willing. In the DI, you would be in an overt (not covert) position, so you can be more open about working at the agency (of course, with discretion and generally only family and close friends that can keep their mouth shut/be discreet). I also get the impression that the agency likes, and gives spouses opportunity to work for them in some capacity, and also if you are NCS your family goes with you (but that would generally stall a career that she/he is following).
