In Reply To: The CMO position is a clandestine position. In every one of my interviews, the interviewer stressed that I would in fact be working "under cover" and should not tell even my friends that I am applying. I did mention to my interviewer that I told my dad what I was doing, as I am a recent graduate who still lives at home as I try to land decent employment (sad, I know. lol). If you go to the cia webpage, they will list all of the clandestine positions. Although cover would untimately be more important if you were actually out in the field, keeping one's affiliation secret is highly important for all NCS positions. The mere fact that an officer in the NCS would be privy to actual operational information concering the CIA makes such an officer subject to pressure from others to divulge what he or she knows. Therefore, the officer's actual affiliation is actually secret in order to protect the officer as well as the government. Well, that is my understanding at least. As far as WHO it applies to MORE strictly, I think it is best to just listen to what your interviewers tell you...and they will tell you that you need to respect the idea of cover for all NCS postiions. If you are clandestine (which even the HQ based positions are) then there mere essense of the word means "conducted with secrecy." During my group interview somone tried to ask a similar question about the Staff Operations Officer field, and the CIA officer answering the question gave a blanket response that clandestine means secret...no matter if you are in the field or not. I doubt most officers will publicly make a statement that cover isnt important for CMO's or SOO's..... Think about the whole Valerie Plume situation. If the CIA were to say that her cover was less important that an OO's, at least in a real affirmative sense, I guess there would be no debate on "outing" her....
Message: not really debating the importance of clandestine for SOOs though. totally get it. just not sure why i would roleplay "out in the field" if im applying for SOO and going to be at HQ. actually, my phone person told me that 99% of my time would be spent in DC with very little travel. .. maybe it will be more of a roleplay like... "officer doodie calls in saying this... what do you do?" who knows. i mean, it is a clandestine organization so its hard to see how applicants would be expected to know how to roleplay anything?
