In Reply To: Have any of the DI candidates on this board had any discussions regarding transferring to the DO once you start? I vaguely remember being told during my interview that you have to wait a certain period (3 years?) before you can apply for such a transfer. Comments?
Message: Spynavy, I had an offer with a group and was cleared over a year ago, but had to delay for work reasons. Unfortunately the original offer was later rescinded for that reason, but there was a similar group that had an interest in me. The manager of the group mentioned that he had an analyst who was preparing to move over to the DO. This guy is a former cop, but my impression was that if you have the right personality and have done well within the DI then it's definitely an option. The reason he mentioned it to me was because he thought I had the perfect personality for the transition, after about three years or so in the DI. So your original timeline sounds about right. If you're working in an analytical group that is tied to a center such as the Counter Intelligence Center, Counter Terrorism Center, or the Information Operations Center the transition may be easier as analysis and operations work hand in hand.
