In Reply To: I was on track to enter the CST program as a 22 yo (applying as a 22yo, would have been a little older once I started), but I was disqualified once they realized I had only been drug-free for only five months (the process is now different and they don't let you get that far before asking you about these issues). Because everything had gone so well I knew it must have been the drug use so I went on to do some other stuff and reapplied a couple of years later and got the COE. It wasn't a question of being unqualified my first time around, it was solely based on the one year drug-free rule. because I admitted to it the first chance I got, they didn't hold it against me. if you get to the poly and admit it after you've been denying it, you will never work for them. I've also heard that if you fail the poly or are deemed unsuitable at some point during or after the BI, you will also never stand a chance again. But if you have been rejected for something unrelated to the security clearance, reapply.
Message: From what I have heard a lot of people that work for the DO are those who made it through processing on their second and third try. I think it would be much easier to go through the whole process the second time - knowing the nature of the questions and roleplays. I would assume that they would ask additional questions like why you thought you were disqualified before and what you have accomplished to make you a stronger canidate this time around.
