In Reply To: Thanks SurferDude... I know about the age issues. 35 yrs is for field work and the Operational Targeting Officer is an HQ based job with no age limit. Also, on more than one occasion, the DO rep I mentioned said they frequently waive the age limitation depending on the person. I've spent a lot of time abroad so don't necassarily want to frequently go abroad right now. I've taken that test on the website and it usually says very good match for clandestine service. It's a useful tool but not something I'm going to base this decision on that only of course. As I understand it, when you apply to a directorate you are considered for ALL positions in that directorate anyway. My decision is whether to apply to DI or DO at this time. I also understand it is possible to change directorates somewhere down the line.
Message: There has been some suggestion that DI may move out of CIA to be under the direct authority of the DNI. Perhaps related is the report in US News that claims there is a plan to dissolve the directorates. Bottom line, I really think which way you go is driven by what you like to do: are you a better thinker and writer, or are you a better problem-solver and doer?
