In Reply To: Well, there may be a higher standard for a DO employee considering they will be more susceptible to black mail overseas. Many case officers were photographed in bed with Russian women and men (in a homosexual situation) during the cold war. It surprises me that the female honey trap was very successful. I think I would ask for copies of the photos so I could show my friends as opposed to being worried about embarrassment and black mail. So I too had heard the stories of the sexual lifestyle questions before the poly which is why I was not a bit surprised when we got into them. Their biggest concern was my choice of partners from countries pretty hostile to the US (including suring a trip I took illegally). All I can say is be completely honest during the process. They really don't care what you tell them as long as its legal.
Message: Another consideration. One of the most acute concerns in intelligence involves fabricators (think Jayson Blair). That operates on 2 levels. The first is that your agent fabricates. The other is that your case officer fabricates. You take your agents as they come -- the key is their access to the information you want. However, agencies can pick and choose their case officers, and this is one reason they want to be pretty damn sure how their case officers view "the truth", at least, the truth that they pass back to headquarters. For those who are analysts, the data relied upon is out there and the analysis can be tested. For case officers, working alone, they are the ones who pass on the intelligence shared, sometimes verbally, often times with no means of verfication. INHO, that is why the integrity of the case officer is paramount.
