There are two books by Antonio Mendez, a retired Technical Operations Officer. His first book is called "Master of Disguise" and his second book (coauthored by his wife) is called "Spy Dust".
Though they delve into the technical operations, they go into detail on some very interesting operations during the cold war. I personally liked "Spy Dust" better, but they are both a great read for anyone interested in operations. |

If you can find it: 'A Spy and His Masters' by Christopher Felix. This was written way back, and the author claims he worked in Hungary during the 50s.
It is written like a text book, with the first half devoted to the craft of recruiting and the second half a description of the author's own experience in Hungary.
Also if you are interested in the psychology of treason (important for DO on all the reasons why and how people betray their country), the book 'Traitors'
by Chapman Pincher is invaluable and one of the few books that deals with this subject.
The books above are two lesser known treasures of HUMINT literature.
