I ranked a GS-9, step 7. I have no real work experience, other than internships, but I do have an advanced degree and professional certification. So, that's probably why I am slightly higher. If I had some experience, maybe it would be a litter higher than that even. |

I'm about the same as govnut--no real work experience but I do have a masters degreee. Not sure why the step is different. Maybe because I did a few internships with the federal govt or maybe because I speak a few foreign languages, but I doubt that considering that is usually taken into account in the signing bonus once you are actually tested for the languages.
