Salary Negotiation |

In all honesty, I think the salary decisions are pretty mechanical. When I was offered my pay grade, they actually mentioned two different grades. The higher grade, whick I was given, was conditional upon me being a member of the Bar, even though being a licensed attorney has nothing to do with the job. I just think the quantify your degrees, languages learned, professional experience, etc, and give you a pretty standard pay grade basedc upon that. I didn't negotiate at all, but I might have considered doing so if I had any languages to offer. But, unfortunately all I have is the minimal spanish I remember from high school and my first year of college. If you want to negotiate, make sure you base your arguement on some special skills/qualifications that you can bring to the table. |

Negotiating a salary with the government is sometimes difficult. They may give you a one or two step increases but nothing more. If they offered you a GS9-step1, chances are that when the negotiation is over, they may offer you GS9-step2 or maybe a step 3. Good luck
