Does anyone have a general sense about how stringent the medical requirements are for the DO? Is it like enlisting in the military, or are people with minor, non-critical conditions accepted?
I'm especially curious to hear from people applying for the DO who have passed the medical screening already--what did you have, and was it at all an issue?
Thanks. |

The whole thing is not too intensive, like everyone's said already. But if you've had any sort of medical problem, make sure to bring your records with you. With me, I have a heart condition that doesn't limit me physically, but for which I've received treatment since 2000. So, I went ahead and requested a copy of all my medical records with respect to that condition and took them with me to the exams. Sure enough, they made a copy of them while I was there and I even had to provide other information from my cardiologist once I got home.
Bottom line, the tests are routine but if you have a condition, it's in your interest to give them as much info as possible so they know you won't keel over on your first day. ;)
