to give a little more info, my offer was rescinded by the DI for "suitability" reasons. i don't have any concrete idea of what the problem was.
the other agency that just granted me TS/SCI did not seem the least bit concerned that CIA had rescinded its offer. no one grilled me on it. no "red flags" seemed to go up when i disclosed it (on my SF86 and in interviews). so my feeling is, if you actually get a security clearance *denied* by an agency, you're obviously in deep sh*t, but if your offer is rescinded for those nebulous "suitability" reasons, keep your head up and try again.
maybe because CIA has the best "name brand" recognition, it just gets and processes so many applicants that a high rejection rate is unavoidable. if you've had an offer from CIA rescinded, look to the other dozen or so agencies in the intelligence community. my salary is the same as it would have been had i worked for CIA and the work is similar if not more interesting.
