There is a big push on for hiring in the DI this year and next, so the backlog is a reality. Moreover, BI are done regionally, and I suspect not all regions are as well staffed with contract workers to do them, so you get in the queue and wait. Finally, there are interns in play, who need to be cleared by the summer, so that may impact current processing. |

The CIA is experiencing huge backlogs, and though my BI started immediately after my poly/med, I wouldn't find it hard to believe that they still haven't started yours. My PO repeatedly told me that the DI hiring frenzy had created bottlenecks in various parts of the process, which worked there way down the pipeline. My delay was in adjudication, but maybe they are experiencing a new bottleneck in the BI...who knows...
And for the guy who has been in adjudication for 2 months: I was in adjudication for roughly 7 months before I was cleared, so don't feel too discouraged about your 2-month wait.
And as far as attrition goes, the number that was repeatedly thrown around me, by numerous officials, was about 1/3 of applicants do not make it past "security processing." No one ever clarified what exactly this means, so I assume it is the proportion of applicants who do not pass the suitability screening or adjudication, and maybe even includes applicants who drop out voluntarily.
