I might be biased because I speak Farsi, but it is an easier language to learn compared to ARabic. I studied Arabic for 4 years, and had a very hard time.
Furthermore, Central Asia, the former Soviet Republics, are going to be a important region of the world in the future because of the huge supplies of Gas that reside inthe region. Also, they are strategically located in an area where oil and gas pipelines have to cross, whether they be From Iran or Russia. You can find a huge Persian influence in this region, where substantial parts of the population speak farsi. Tajik, the language spoken in Tajikistan is for all intents and purposes persian, and so is Dari, spoken in Afghanistan, and some other parts of central asia.
my 2 cents.
