In Reply To: I am not sure if you are being sarchastic or not but we should always remember the technology used to make the Russian subs quieter came from the US through Toshiba. http://japanlaw.info/lawletter/april87/fdf.htm Japan is a global economic power. Who would you want to watch? Remember also that Japan still refuses to admit to many of the crimes it committed during the second world war. Read "The Rape of Nanking" if you feel really happy and want to be brought way down. The author did a brilliant job and everything she used for research is readily available but still the Japaneese govt does not want to take responsibility for their own actions and admit to them. http://www.tribo.org/nanking/ We should watch "everyone". What you should be asking is who do we not watch that should be watched? What is our intelligence capability in South Africa and Venezuela?
Message: let's see...Deming's ideas are great; soviet union dissolved; toshiba is a good company where some employees made dangerously bad decisions; the milling machines probably could have been bought elsewhere; Japanese banks highly overvalued the land in Japan, for instance, one city alone was valued higher than all the USA combined. The money was lent to Japanese with the requirement that all be repaid-with interest-even if by future generations; I would watch the Arabs; South Africa is still poor and still has no ideas; Venezuela has a radical, communist-leaning leader over basically good people; and I doubt the Japanese will ever, shall we say, repent, for WWII-but neither will we. But, I am happy to say Japan is our Allie now.
