I recently finished the Lindsay Moran book, and now I'm questioning whether the CIA is something I really want. I get the impression the organization is a great deal more dysfunctional than I ever imagined, and just as vulnerable to manipulation by the current administration as any other government agency. In particular, I've been disheartened to read about retribution by Goss against officers who didn't support the Bush agenda, all of the wasted resources, and the failure to correct any of the problems that led to 9/11. In short, I'm no longer sure the CIA is the right place for people who want to make a significant contribution to their country and to the world. |

I highly recommend the Floyd Paseman book about his career. It is not without its warts, but it is a better picture of what a career might be like than Ms. Moran's dalliance with the CIA.
