I will be applying to the DO this year but am also in the process of acquiring dual citizenship to a european country through my parents, I WAS BORN IN THE USA. My main reason would be to have options to live and work in the EU, down the line, if I do not get accepted to CIA or if they dont like me or vice versa. If I am not tied to bad people and ALL immediate family lives in the US and holds US citizenship, would holding dual citizenship or having interest to acquire it be a reason for disqualification? |

I'm sorry, but you will definitely run into issues with a dual citizenship, even if it is with a friendly European nation. This may sound paranoid, but you have to think about the diplomatic mess the US govt could get into if it caught a dual-national spying and then the other nation demanded extradition of "its" citizen-I??m sure this has happened, and after reading the OPM??s list of rejected candidates for clearances, it is clear that a candidate may be rejected for possible foreign influence not because there is an imminent threat of such influence but simply because there could be.
I would still definitely apply and ask the recruiter about your specific situation, but it is more likely than not that you would be asked to give up your dual citizenship, unless the CIA decided that you were not only trustworthy but also that maintaining that status would be beneficial to your work.
