I got a positive response on the far end of the time frame they gave me, but still within that range. If you have a contact number for the recruiter or hiring manager, I don??t think it would be too unreasonable to call. If anything you can call to reconfirm your interest in the position and the agency, which isn??t that bad to do anyway.
And as far as waiting, yeah it sucks. But if you do get a job be prepared to wait, wait longer, and wait even more. Every step of this process takes FOREVER, so keep that in mind.
For your reference, I applied way back in November (of 2004!), got an offer in February, and I am still waiting for a security clearance. Apparently my wait times are pretty normal. So don??t really read too much into a long wait; it??s pretty standard.

poly/another poly/med/psych profile/visit to opps center in Novem 3, 05
could not believe that the poly was passed, since they told ne that there were numerous unresolved issues.
called by DoD for BI in mid Dec. and it took 2 weeks with approx 30 people inter.
they said that i should go into adj. shortly and that it should take 1-2 months.
