In Reply To: How close do you think movies like Syriana and Munich get to portraying the real world of intelligence? On a side note, do you think the CIA actively plants sleepers and their officers in terrorist groups around the world? They have previously publicly denied this and claimed that they would never risk their officers' lifes in such a manner. They said that they have no more than a handful of officers who would even be capable of infiltrating terrorist cells by posing as terrorists. Given the current focus on terrorism and islamic extremists, how actively do you think the CIA is recruiting people with muslim backgrounds? Melissa Boyle Mahle and Lindsay Moran, both ex-CIA field officers, have claimed in a PBS interview that while they worked at the CIA, 2nd generation Americans almost always got washed out during the security background investigation and polygraph. They claimed that the agency has an inherent distrust of foreigners and after the recent publicity of moles within the CIA and FBI, the agency always sides on the side of caution. They claim that the quality of officers is suffering because of this. Instead of hiring middle easterners, indians, chineese, etc, the agency continues to hire mostly white americans. The agency's response to 9/11 has predominantly been to hire white americans in bulk. They have increased the quantity of the Clandestine Service, but not the quality. Out of curiosity, how many people on this board come from an islamic background? In other words how many people know the five pillars of islam, know how to pray, have memorized parts of the koran and understand things like zakat and fasting?
