I'm 24, have only a BA degree, and decent brand-name work experience. I'm contemplating a shift from the working world to the world of Peace Corps, main motivation to get out of my comfort zone and experience a different lifestyle and culture.
I know the altruistic benefits of doing Peace Corps, but I'm more interested in what others have to say about the practical benefits in doing Peace Corps. How does the job market view people who returned from doing Peace Corps?
thanks in advance |

I was a PCV in the early 1980's, right out of college. In the first few years after I returned, interviewers nearly always asked why I did it, and what it was like. I think that the opportunity to talk about motivation and experience was an advantage. As one may expect, after you have been in the workforce for several years the PCV experience becomes less relevant to potential employers. Nevertheless, even 20 years later, the PCV line on my resume still elicites questions and creates conversation.
I think that your "main motivation" will be understood by potential employers. Aside from achieving a great deal of personal growth, you will return with a lot to talk about.
Good luck.
