In Reply To: Venture Capital and IM are careers within the finance industry, but with very different focus. So first you have to decide wich specific field do you like. What a mean for example is that for a career in IM the CFA is very very valuable, for VC is relatively nothing it would'nt open many doors. Basically for an opportunity in VC or PE you need an MBA from a Top School not the case in IM. With an MBA in Boston College and CFA designation you can do fine in some buyside shops, but dont just look in the biggest asset management firms is better to be the head of a mouse than the tail of a lion.
Message: Ashrael, thanks for the feedback...actually i already have an MBA and am wondering is doing an MSF and CFA is an overkill to be in the asset mgmt field or would a certtificate and CFA suffice. The problem is that most top schools dont offer an MSF.
