In Reply To: I am 24 years old with a non-Haas BA from UC Berkeley. I took a position with Morgan Stanley's Corporate Finance Division in '00 in NYC and was laid off in '01. It's now a year and a half later and I'm attempting to get an analyst position in strategy to no avail. My skill set/intelligence is very weighted towards verbal rather than quantitative stuff (i.e. my GMAT was perfect verbal side and about 40% on the Quant. and that was after spending a month studying the math and no time on the verbal). I've had my CV reviewed and ther aren't any problems with it. So I don't know what else I can do to get noticed. Prior to MS, I worked full-time at university in career-type roles, was involved in both school and community activities and graduated from Berkeley Magna Cum Laude. So far I've only managed to interview with McKinsey who dinged me due to "poor Quantitative skills" basically I just couldn't do the math quickly in cases. Their advice was practice my math. I should note that I only got that interview due to knowing a former HR rep there. The only people who seem willing to interview me are Accenture and I don't want to do IT. What can I do? I need advice! Please help!
Message: Dear gecko: First, remember that you're not alone. Lots of people out there looking for interviews... (1)You must do something to improve your quant. skills!! Take classes? Do whatever it takes if you're going to stay in that field. (2)Check the vault message boards by company to find out what it takes to get into your target co's. Are they hiring? If not, who is? (3)Network! Who else do you know who might know someone who can help you get an interview? Best wishes, Jane
