Message: I work in foreign affairs in Washington and have for about 10 yrs. I speak several languages and have a fair amount of substantive knowledge but it doesn't include finance or accounting (though I did minor in Econ quite a while ago). My question is: is there any realistic expectation that I could make a switch from govt to either IB or Private Equity or something similar without going back for an MBA? I'd like to get into advising on foreign market entry, etc. (and make more money than my current $70+K govt salary). I have an "in" to a major PE firm in this area but don't want to embarrass myself by claiming I can do a job that I'm utterly unqualified for. I would appreciate any guidance you can provide. M.
