It seems like this is the longest job market downturn in recent history. Its been about two years now that hiring has been a joke. From my experience and from what head hunters and other have said the job market cratered around Feb or March of 01. Furthermore, from what I remember the job market went from sizzling to nothing in only a matter of 3 months (late Dec 00 - Mar 01). Thats realy fast. Do people on this board think the job market could rebound in the same amount of time? Or is it going to be just a long slow grind up again. |

Dear apkism,
I vote for long slow grind, although I do know people who are getting interviews & jobs. There seem to be little clusters of up blips going on. The feeling I get is that many things are on hold right now because of the Iraq question. Hard to feel optimistic about anything when the drums of war are beating. People are scared. My experience: even people who are normally optimistic are now apprehensive & sad. When I talk with groups, the mood is somber.
