In Reply To: What is the best way to break the news to your boss when you are leaving a position for a different job, and you know the news will be a big surprise. My specific situation os that I work at a pretty good job with great people, but I know that ultimately I can never excel at the company because I'm not genuinely interested in their line of business. Not trying to to burn any bridges - just taking a slightly higher paying position at a company I know I can get excited about. What's the best procedure - anyone with a similar experience to share? Thanks in advance!
Message: If you like the company but they do not fit your master plan then by all means do the right thing and give two weeks notice and explain to your supervisor how you feel. However, these days, most employers insist on an "at will" employment policy which means they can fire you for any reason or no reason. I don't think under these circumstances employess "owe" them notice the employee feels they deserve it.
