In Reply To: What is the best way to break the news to your boss when you are leaving a position for a different job, and you know the news will be a big surprise. My specific situation os that I work at a pretty good job with great people, but I know that ultimately I can never excel at the company because I'm not genuinely interested in their line of business. Not trying to to burn any bridges - just taking a slightly higher paying position at a company I know I can get excited about. What's the best procedure - anyone with a similar experience to share? Thanks in advance!
Message: It is difficult but you have to look out for yourself. Tell your boss that you have found a position that lines up with your long term goals better then your current position. Give 2 weeks and give suggestions on how you will transition your work to someone else. Just stay calm and focus on how your new job will help your future. They might try and negotiate with you so be prepared. Good Luck! and good for you for making a change!
