Has anyone out there had any experience with outfits like R. L. Stevens or Bernard Haldane? They hold themselves out as "career counselors" rather than headhunters. I am told that unlike most headhunters (whose fees are paid by the employers), you have to pay these firms yourself. Any idea what they charge? and more importantly, is it worth it?
I am an in-house attorney with a struggling company and am looking for a new job, or even a career change, and so far the headhunters have not been much help.
Thanks. |

I tried one of these ripoff artists or should we call them fraud operators?
I listened to their presentation and was sold with a bit of skepticism but I was sold.
They did not follow through as they professed and I received only 2 phone calls from agencies only when prompted for a status update. I had been receiving calls daily. Of course, they told me to curtail all of my job search efforts which set me back 6 weeks.
Suffice it to say that I did report them to the BBB but only got about half of my money back. The company said they were charging $70 per hour for services rendered. What a joke!!!!
If you choose this route ensure that the hourly rate fro service is included as well as the flat fee and the duration of services.
Chances are you can do as good a job or better than any agency.
As for the hidden job market. It definitely exists....but it is better known as internal hiring....and what company DOESN'T do that? I used to do it myself when I was doing the hiring for my departments.
