Hello,
I recently took a voluntary package from the bulge bracket i-bank I was working at as an analyst. Many would say I am taking a huge risk, but from a short and long term perspective, although I learned a lot, banking is just not for me as it involves very little creativity or problem solving and spending 80-120 hours a week seems like an incredible life opportunity cost. Two questions:
1) When talking to future employers, should I tell them I was laid off, took a package or not tell them at all if it is still within the severance time frame?
2) I really want to head towards advertising/marketing for an entertainment or consumer products company or do strategic planning (a nice bridge between finance and marketing). Any advice? |

It is very vourageous of you to take that step out of an IBank many people die to get in.
I admire you for refusing to be a golden slave, making tons of money but not having any time even to spent it.
If I interviewed you and if you just told me that, I would think: hey this guy has a lot of courage, he's a grown up, and he knows what he wants.
It doesn't mean that I have a merketing job to offer.
Good luck
jim
