Hello,
I recently took a voluntary package from the bulge bracket i-bank I was working at as an analyst. Many would say I am taking a huge risk, but from a short and long term perspective, although I learned a lot, banking is just not for me as it involves very little creativity or problem solving and spending 80-120 hours a week seems like an incredible life opportunity cost. Two questions:
1) When talking to future employers, should I tell them I was laid off, took a package or not tell them at all if it is still within the severance time frame?
2) I really want to head towards advertising/marketing for an entertainment or consumer products company or do strategic planning (a nice bridge between finance and marketing). Any advice? |

Generally, the truth is the best approach to any organization and people you would like to have a productive and genuine relationship with.
Regarding advertising, get What??Color is Your Parachute and read the material on doing a career search....its all about identifying your strengths and passions and translating them into a presentation that helps solves the challenges of some potential employer
