I think you are making a mistake when you assume that I can't get what I want unless I step on a lot of people.
I'm a believer in win/win situations. It's worked for me so far. Not only that, but I also believe that you have to take care of yourself first before you can truly take of anybody else. Even the Buddha recognized this - that is why he gave up the yogic traditions.
And Kipling was rich and famous because he sold a lot of writings.
