In Reply To: Jane, You're absolutely right about networking..........:) My "fight" for CPA and CMA license is the major part of my attempt to break into a big reputable company with a decent compensation. I may hit CFA next year as well. Kind of "Monkey Business" book rules in reality, people go to the top American schools in order to.........? get at least some chance to be RECOGNIZED/NOTICED and get to this long awaited job interview with a top company employer...... Although, there're thousands of talented hard working experts who simply graduated from smaller less reputable schools. "Monkey Business" is monkey business INDEED! I'll enter top five B-School with a couple of years just.... to..... get this job offer from a top employer. I don't have strong network connections but I'll get to my goal by all possible means anyway.... titles, titles, titles. :)
Message: Dear Ex: Remember that networking means contacting people & being who you are so they can get to know you. That's how you build a network. Think of it as ripples moving out from the stone dropped in a pond. Yes, you want to hang out with prof. groups - people who are doing what you want to do. But you also want to tell everyone you know what you're looking for & asking "who do you know who I should talk with?" Also: join groups/activities that reflect the things you really care about. Example: a woman who volunteered with a group that helps kids with cancer. She's in marketing. Her vol. work had nothing to do with marketing, BUT she made a great contact thru that work & found her next wonderful job. The important part: she got involved in something that she cared about, her enthusiasm & personality & make-it-happpen attitude came shining thru & somebody thought of her first when that mktg job was available. Jane
