Hello,
Vitals: BSEE 1984
MSCS 1992
Currently working in a programming capacity for a large outsourcing firm. I enjoy the gig very much overall, however, I get very nervous every time I hear about "agism" in this profession (being, ahem, 41, ahem).
So I'm sitting here wondering which direction my continuing education should take. My apparent options:
Management:
Suggested by some people
as the way to go. Personally, I would rather chew my leg off.
IT "Skills":
This I do by default, but the proliferation of countless languages, packages,
and tools, plus "agism", seems like a short term solution at best.
Further academic credentials/degrees:
Electrical Eng? loved it as BS student, but would have brush off a lot of cobwebs. What would job prospects look like? Was thinking of pursuing real-time/embedded direction.
Other Engineering? Mat Sci?
Applied Math/Stat. Local college has program in this that seems most intriguing. THis seems like an area greatly neglected by most people. Would there be
career potential?
If anyone out there has found themselves in similar circumstances, what did you do? How did/is it turning out?
Thanks
