In Reply To: Currently, I am looking to obtain an equity research associate position at a financial services firm, I'm not particular about whether it be bulge-bracket or a research boutique. But, I'm having great difficulty transferring into this line of work with my background. I have an MBA from a second tier school and a Bachelor's degree from a top-tier school, both with high grade point averages. I worked in an FP&A role at a Big 5 accounting firm and as a credit analyst at a small commercial bank. In the upcoming year, I plan to begin pursuing the CFA designation and I'm trying to network with alumni of my respective schools. I was hoping to hear from people with positive, constructive advice on breaking into this field. If you have a negative reply (i.e. thats impossible, etc...), don't waste my time or yours.
Message: Dear ital: My best advice: ID people who are doing what you want to do & request informational interviews with them. Ask their expert advice about what you must do to make the switch. Ask more than one. You could get very different perspectives. Also: did you post on the vault industry msg boards? >browse all boards > by industry. There's fin srvcs, cmrcl banking, etc. Best of luck to you. Jane
