I graduated in May 2000 with a double major in Finance and Actuarial Science and have been working at a big 5 firm as an actuarial consultant. I really enjoy the consulting environment, but just cannot get excited about life insurance. I think that if I was working with clients involved in financial services, consumer products or technology, I would be much happier. I've thought about Marketing Research, as they need people with strong mathematical backgrounds. Or strategic consulting, which is basically what I do now, but I wouldn't be stuck in the life insurance industury. I think I'd want something that is a little more innovative, an environment that is younger and more creative.
Does anyone have any advice to help me decide what areas I would have a chance in getting in to? |

Dear rach:
You're going at it backwards - first, figure out what interests you, what you like to do & what talents/skills you have. Don't think in job titles - just in terms of what you like to do with people, things, info, etc. What are you best at? You've already started on this. You said you like consulting (w/o the life ins. part) & want innovative, creative environmt. It's a beginning. Check some of the books that help you with this procedure like "Now Discover Your Strengths" or "What Color is Your Parachute?" Those might help you get started.
There's also a Vault Insurance msg board. You might post there, too (>browse all boards > by industry).
Best wishes,
Jane
