I have recently resigned from a position as VP/manager of a loan admin./operations dept. for a large international bank. I have over 13 years of increasing experience behind me.
After experiencing first hand the results of employee/employer relations,I have decided that I would be happier working with and for people (both the company and the employees) rather than with the numbers.
I have had many successful experiences as a manager that proved to me how much a positive work environment can increase the productivity of a department or company. I have also lived through the negative side of this and seen very high employee turnover.
As a manager, I created as positive a work environment as possible while working in a very negative work environment.
I have decided to change my career from banking to human resources. I would like to work on employee/employer relations as well as on organizational change and/or development.
Has anyone out there made this type of transition? If so, what problems (if any) did you face? Did you go into HR while still working in a bank or did you transition completely out into a new industry? Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a writer working on a story for a national business magazine about changing careers in a down economy.
Anybody -- ahem, Loan Op Manager -- have any intersting stories about mustering up the courage to change career gears even though job security is not especially strong these days?
If so, please email me at bitterbizeditor@yahoo.com and I will give you more info about the story, the magazine, my contact info., etc.
Thanks
