My education consists of a BSEE and an MBA. I started my career with a major telecommunications company. I never really felt challenged there and rotated through several engineering and marketing divisions. After five years, I joined a small start-company last year, mainly to fulfill my need for greater responsibility and challenge. Unfortunately, this small company fell victim to private equity funding issues recently and closed shop.
I am intrigued with consulting even though I have had little exposure to consultants and I know very little about the various opportunities in this field. But I feel that consulting is an excellent match for my personality type and interests.
I think consulting would be a great career transition for me, but I really don't know where to start. I would appreciate any advice, suggestions, contacts, etc...
THANKS!!

Dear mark:
Start by getting more information! Check Vault articles on getting into consulting & whether it's right for you. Check the vault industry msg boards & post some questions there (>browse all boards > by industry). Go to other websites too like businessweek online, mbajungle, etc. for info. And talk to some consultants to get the straight scoop.
Best wishes,
Jane
