In Reply To: Hi, I am a Mechanical Er. and have been working in a flourmill for the past 3 years as a miller. I just hate this job because: (1)I see no long term opportunity to strick it big and (2)I just hate my working environment. I am more interested in Industrial Psychology/Project Management/Consulting etc. where I can have the opportunity of taking up a new challenge once in a while. I love meeting people. How can I change over from Flour milling to my desired fields? How do I go about acquiring the tools needed for the change over? I am tied up due to certain responsibilities and so cant spend big for the time being. Please advice.
Message: In a large corporation, the managers have almost as much power as a communist leader. They don't view performance objectively and they have far more rights than you do as their worker. Furthermore, HR does not care about you. The health insurance is there for you because you will need it. Why? Because of high stress and high turnover. And you will have to visit a doctor who will tell you that you need to take anti-depressants and see a counselor and stick it out. What does that do? And the employer admits that they are the problem by giving you 3 free sessions of counseling by calling a 1-800 number. This is not the solution, either. The work environment in our medium-sized office is bad. The jobs themselves are great. But the stress is so bad that many people are on medicine and hate their work lives here. Be careful of where you go and keep your options open.
