Will MFA in Multimedia Get Web Design Work? |

i currently have a BA in computer science and have been working full-time for about two years. before that i worked part-time for another two while going to school. i've been doing web design but the work i do has been less than satisfying lately as most of it is html and javascript for the intranet and i feel i have to fight just to add a little more than the "basics" to anything i do as my company is more concerned with putting information out fast than good design and there is no push for anything cutting-edge. on top of that i will no longer be doing any design soon since we are moving to having all our pages under a standard template.
i'm trying to get more into creative design, and i want to find a job where i can do exciting things and work around people who are similarly motivated. my question is this: will going back to school and getting an MFA in multimedia design up my chances of getting the job i want? what are my prospects with only the computer science degree?
if i do go to school i won't be able work full-time, but i will still need to finance my education somehow. any ideas on getting freelance and/or part-time work while i go to school? |

Would your present employer let you change to working part-time while you go to school? I know, you're not happy there, but jobs in your field are pretty scarce right now & at least it would pay the bills. I don't see how an MFA could make you a LESS attractive candidate. Check job boards for the kinds of jobs you would like to be doing (assuming there are some posted at the moment) to find out what kinds of education they will want to see on your resume. If you don't go back to school, you will need a portfolio of creative, cutting-edge stuff to show what you can do.
Good luck.
