I have applied for a joint degree (JD/MBA). I have been accepted to both program at various schools (i.e. UPenn and Northwestern). But my top choices are Stanford and Harvard. I have so far been accepted to Stanford Business and Harvard Law but not their respective counterparts.
My question is though I hope to get into both programs and both schools if I have to make a decision based on my current options which one should I take. My career goals are quite open right now between business (consulting) and law but I'm leaning towards consulting. I currently work in accounting so I wondered if anyone can give advice on the benefits of either degree. Will I be at a great disadvantage if I don't get the MBA? |

Congrats on the acceptances, I'm sure you have great grades, scores, and resume. If cash is king, go into banking. The pay differential after the first year is pretty great. As a second year VP after 5 years, you'll make 500-600K in banking compared to 150-200K in consulting. If intellectual challenge is your thing, don't go into either, go into teaching and research. If variety is your thing, consulting is good but it can get very tiring to travel and deal with so many changes and bureaucracy. It's a well known fact that while the Stanford name is popular with the young'uns and a "cooler" name. The Harvard MBA/JD will have more prestige and power in 5 years and with recruiters.
