Message: I, too, am getting out of the military. Here's a few things I've noticed. First, while there is some anti-military bias in the most selective career fields, it is not very widespread. I went to a top-tier school, for example, and alot of people assumed you joined the military because you couldn't get any other job. As long as you have the connections to get the interview, these biases are easily overcome during the interview. Second, my expereience with the military has done nothing but lower my opinion of it and our government as a whole. Fortunately for us the outside world fully buys into all the bullshit about leadership, dedication, etc. that is growing more and more rare in the military the further we get from the Cold War. This gives you the opportunity to build alot of things up on your resume. Lastly, it's all about connections. I'm looking at strat consulting and IB where connections are everything. But even for other jobs this is true. I know quite a few guys on the E-side who, between connections and the Air Force paying for Cisco and Sun certifications are making significantly more than alot of the dipshit O's getting out (I am an O, by the way, I am just realizing that the military seems to be handing out commissions like candy on Halloween these days, and dipping pretty low into the college graduate pool).
