In Reply To: Hello: I'm 22 years old, and I'm relocating to the Detroit area this summer to begin working at Ford Motor in Dearborn. I was hoping I could get some feedback as to where the best places are in the metro area for young, single people to live. I'm currently in the Chicago area, and there are lots of communities here (Lincoln Park, Lakeview, etc.) that are concentrated with young-professional types and have lots of bars and other signs of good social life. I know Detroit and Chicago are totally different breeds of city, but are there any areas in metro Detroit which can be described as "the Lincoln Park of metro Detroit?" Please don't give me any feedback about how bad Detroit is and how if I knew what was good for me I would stay in Chicago; I grew up outside Detroit so I know what I'm getting into. However, I have barely been back to the area since I left for college four years ago, which is why I am posting for help here. Any responses will be sincerely appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Message: Hello, fellow Vault Member, you are in luck! I am a 26 year-old native of Detroit, MI. Although I reside in the metro DC area, I have no bad feelings about Motown. In fact, I recently visited my friends and family there over Easter vacation. To answer your question about great metro Detroit cities, let me give you a few ideas: 1) Royal Oak- good restaurants, entertainment, living, etc. 2) Dearborn- not bad, a bit closer to Detroit area. 3) Ann Arbor- further from Detroit, college town (U of M). 4) Southfield- pretty cool, a bit family-oriented. Although this is a short list, I hope it helps.
